Get Stronger and Healthier Hair with Olaplex!
With all of the color and styling options available today, it’s no wonder your hair may look and feel like it needs a little TLC. Constant and repetitive coloring and heat styling can cause thermal, mechanical and chemical damage to your hair, but thanks to Olaplex treatments, you can have stronger and healthier hair almost instantly.
So, What Is Olaplex?
Olaplex is a new salon treatment that works by multiplying bonds and cross-linking broken bonds of each and every hair strand. Developed by two of the world's leading PHD's in Materials and Chemistry, the Olaplex formula links broken bonds in the hair before, during and after chemical services. Keep in mind that Olaplex is not a conditioner. Conditioners are cosmetic, whereas Olaplex works internally to cross link single sulfur hydrogen bonds to create disulfide bonds.
How Are Olaplex Treatments Applied?
Olaplex can be used for both clients who are undergoing a color process or clients who just want healthier hair without coloring. There are three steps in total but depending on the severity of damage, all three steps may or may not be needed.
With Color Treatments
Stylists use the Olaplex Bond Multiplier No.1 by adding it to the lightener or color, and finish by applying Bond Perfector No.2 after color is rinsed from the hair to dramatically reduce breakage with every color service.
For added optimization, your stylist may include the professional Hair Perfector No.3 to take home to use once a week in order to strengthen hair further or to use as a pre-treatment to a future chemical service.
Stand Alone Treatment
If you are not having color applied, your stylist can still provide you with the benefits of Olaplex right at the shampoo station. Your stylist will mix the Olaplex Bond Multiplier No.1 with a small amount of water and thoroughly saturate your hair. Then, after just a few minutes, apply the Bond Perfector No.2 from roots to ends and comb through. After 10-20 minutes, it’s time to rinse, shampoo and condition.
Again, for additional optimization, your stylist may recommend the professional Hair Perfector No.3 treatment in salon or to take home to strengthen hair further. Olaplex Stand Alone Treatment and No.3 may be used as often as needed as it is not protein based.

If you live on Long Island, you know all too well exactly what the summer heat and humidity can do to your hair, but he real culprit is winter’s dreadfully cold and dry air that wreaks the most havoc on those luscious locks.
Most of us spend more time during winter making sure that our skin is properly hydrated, but forget that our hair is in just as much need of moisture and hydration as our skin. Moisturize & Nourish
During the dry winter months, your hair will lose some of its moisture. Combat Static

Over-washing your hair will strip it of its natural oils, which are certainly needed in the colder months. Try to extend the period between your washes as much as possible, by using a dry shampoo such as Biolage Waterless Clean & Full dry shampoo. Not only will it revive second-day hair, but it will help retain body as well as eliminate static electricity. Or look for professional hair care products that contain Phytosterols which will moisturize the scalp, soften the hair, help reduce static and banish flyaways.
Protect and Trim
Since the cold temps and wind will try their best to leave you with dry hair and split ends, this is not the time of year to forgo regular trims and treatments. During summer months when you can let your hair air-dry and rock a ponytail like no other (avoiding heat styling tools), your hair undergoes much less stress. But throughout the winter months, most of us heat dry/style our hair more often, resulting in additional damage and split ends. Make an appointment with your hairdresser every six to eight weeks in order to repair any damage that has been done and revitalize your hair back to a healthy state. All Hair Products are NOT Created Equal
You may have found a drugstore shampoo or conditioner that makes your hair feel silky and smooth, but do you know what it’s really doing to your hair in the long run? Many drugstore brands use similar ingredients to that of the professional brands (or ones that sound similar) but most don’t use the same quality or quantity of these premium elements. They use a small amount in order to boast the positives of such components, but then throw in a bunch of fillers and chemicals to keep the cost low.
Drugstore brands may leave your hair feeling nice and soft for the first few months, but fillers and chemicals can be harsh on your golden locks and will strip your hair of natural oils…essentially and eventually drying out your hair. Fillers can be anything at all that adds quantity to the volume of the product, such as wax and animal fat among other products that leave a build-up on the hair shaft. These fillers may give the feel that your hair is softer when it’s really not. What’s actually happening is that they create a waxy build-up that is preventing your hair from accepting positive ingredients from other salon grade products and eventually leaving your hair dry and damaged.
Worried About the Cost?
If you think that using salon quality hair products will break the bank, you may want to think again. Many drugstore brands use a much larger quantity of water as their main component than do salon quality products, therefore diluting the solution and requiring you to use much more of brand “x” than you would need from the salon choice. Since you’ll need to use much less of the salon brand, the same size bottle should last much longer and make the higher price well worth the additional cost.
And better hair care will save you money in the long run! When your hair is hydrated, healthy, and free of build-up, you will find that your last cut will remain manageable and looking good longer than when your hair is crying out for help (and moisture). You can usually get an additional week or two out of a haircut when your locks are still responding the way they did when you last left the salon.
Of course stylists are trained to know some great blow-drying tricks and use the best brushes, but part of the reason that your hair looks so much better when you visit the salon than when you do it yourself is that you are getting the benefits of salon quality hair products along with your stylists’ artistry and masterful technique.

Balayage is Here and it’s Here to Stay. ..
The technique itself is actually not new, just new to us here in the US. Balayage was developed back in the 70’s in France, but it’s now one of the most popular hair color requests in American salons today because it seamlessly creates depth and dimension, and leaves you with a sun-kissed finish…like how our hair looked by the end of the summer as children - with soft highlights and less noticeable regrowth.
The Technique Itself is a Work of Art…
Balayage is a French word meaning to sweep or to paint, and that’s exactly how the highlights are applied…swept onto the surface of each section. Color is not saturated through the section until the very tips, creating a soft and natural look that will so compliment your summer glow.
Balayage is ombre’s biggest competitor these days. The bold ombre highlight look, made main stream by the Kardashians, is still quite popular but since the more natural effect of balayage has taken the red carpet and fashion runways by storm, the color technique is now bypassing the more dramatic look of its sister process. And as opposed to ombre, balayage allows highlights to be painted on in the just the right places. More dramatic highlights that perfectly frame your face, or even the new splashlights technique, where color is only painted onto the middle of the strand.
It Really Lasts…
The painter’s style of color application allows for a personalized look that suits you to a tee. A variety of colors can be used for a super au natural look, or a look that matches the bolder you, and it can last for a longer period of time between appointments since there is no definitive line of demarcation. It may look like you were born with such beautiful highlights, but remember to protect it as you would any other hair color by using a color protecting shampoo and conditioner , and a heat protecting serum when heat styling.
Don’t be fooled by the easy look of balayage – it’s not an easy technique to master. It takes training, skill and practice, so make sure you visit to a reputable salon and that your colorist has the right training.

Making Waves Without Going to the Beach
Today’s top hairstyles have lots of texture and a little bit of volume, but just because it’s all about making waves this summer, it doesn’t mean you should get rid of your flat iron or anti-frizz serum. There are quite a few ways to get that just off the beach look - some involving the use of a heating element and some au natural – it all depends on how much time you want (or don’t want) to spend on your effortless look and what styling tools you have at your disposal. Here are a few of our favorites…
Curling Iron
The trick to using a curling iron to create loose care-free waves versus curly curls, is to wrap your hair around the barrel without using the clip that traditionally holds your hair in place. There are many tools on the market today that come sans clip so that you don’t have to try working around it. Unlike a traditional wand where you would secure the ends of your hair and curl up towards the hair’s root, start a few inches from your scalp and wrap your way down the barrel. Using a large barrel wand will help create larger waves and avoid tighter curls, as will wrapping/twisting each potion around the wand only once or twice for just the right wavy affect.
Curling Machines
If you just can’t get the hang of the curling iron twist, you may want to try one of the newer products on the market made especially for creating looser waves such as the Infinity Pro by Conair®, or RUSK ® Engineering Curl Freak. These styling tools are super easy to use and work well on both long and shorter hair. All you have to do is separate out a section of hair and slide it into the tool’s opening. The device will automatically take the hair and wrap it around the wand inside. When your curl is ready (it will beep), you just release. These tools look tricky but are really a cinch to use.
Flat Iron
If you have finally mastered the flat iron, you know that you can do more than just straighten your hair with one. Flat irons are great for making waves while keeping your tresses frizz-free. As with any heated styling tool, make sure your hair is completely dry before you start. Take one medium sized section of hair (approximately 2”) at a time and use the flat iron to create waves by bending the iron as you go down the length of your strand. Bend the iron under for about 3” and release, then reapply the iron and bend in the opposite direction for the next 3”, and repeat until you reach the ends. Leave the bottom 2” or so unattended for a more natural look.
Braids
If you are looking for a way to create a beach tousled look without using a heating element, try sleeping with braids. Make sure that your hair is damp, but not drenched – hair does not typically respond to styling until it is at least 80% dry – and then separate your hair into one or two sections, depending on the amount of hair you have. If you have fine hair, you may want to do only one braid in order to avoid a more crimped look. If you have thick hair, you may want to separate your hair into two sections by parting it right down the middle. All you have to do is braid each section and hit the hay. When you wake, take the braids out and run your fingers through your hair to separate the waves without damaging the effect. You can certainly use elastics at the end of each braid so that it stays put, but try not to use a band at the top of the braid or you will have a distinct indent where the waves start. If your hair is hard to curl and you aren’t opposed to using a little bit of heat, try running a flat iron over the length of each braid about 10 minutes before you plan to take them out. It will help lock in the waves and keep flyaways at bay.
Buns
For a super loose style, try putting your hair up in a twisted bun before you go to sleep. Similar to sleeping with braids, make sure that your hair is mostly dry or else you will wake to find that your hair is still wet and that the waves didn’t take. The best part about getting beach waves via the bun is that you can wear a bun to work during your regular 9-5, and let it loose just in time to meet the crew for happy hour. Make sure you carry a few styling products in your bag like Rusk Freezing Spray to lock in body and add a little texture before you hit the town.
Twist Braiding
Another tried and true method of creating that just off the beach look is by twisting small sections of hair around each other into tight little mini-buns. You can just twist two adjacent sections around each other and secure the twisted mound close to your scalp with an elastic so that it stays tight until you are ready to release it. If you prefer, you can use strips of cloth, or even knee socks, to wrap your hair around. Just wrap each section (about 2”) around the sock through to the end, and tie the two ends of the sock into a standard knot so that you can sleep tight without your twists breaking free. To keep the look beachy and carefree, try a texturizing product like Aquage Sea Salt Texturizing spray. It creates a firm hold without the crunch and builds volume, thickness, and adds random texture.
